Para taekwomdo star Sabir Zeynalov is set to be a box-office attraction at the European Para Youth Games (EPYG) in Istanbul.
Zeynalov, who celebrated his 20th birthday on the opening day of training at Cebeci Sports Complex, leads Azerbaijan's powerful seven-strong Para taekwondo team that is on a medal mission.
He has already assured himself of a permanent place in Azerbaijani sporting history after he won the country's first Para taekwondo medal at the Paralympic Games with a bronze in Paris last year.
It followed World and European Championship bronze medals achieved during the three-year Paralympic cycle between Tokyo and Paris, underlining his status as a fighter of the highest quality whose standing on the global stage has proved inspirational for Zeynalov's team-mates.
"It was a proud moment to win Azerbaijan's first ever (Paralympic) medal in Para taekwondo, and my next goal is gold in Los Angeles (2028)," Zeynalov said, who competes in the K44 -58 category. "I will be doing my best to win that gold, and the journey continues."

Zeynalov's sustained success has put him at the forefront of Para sport in Azerbaijan, while also further sharpening his focus in a quest to attain even greater heights.
"I am getting more professional and taken more responsibility since winning the medal, and I am stronger in my training and daily routine," added Zeynalov, who is also his country's team captain in Istanbul..
"It has given me so much motivation, and I am so proud to represent Azerbaijan in the big arena.
"This event here in Istanbul is very important to me. I want to give motivation to the next generation.
"My expectation from EPYG and for my team-mates is to be first in the medal-count. We have had a very good journey in terms of our preparation."
The record-breaking Istanbul 2025 European Para Youth Games officially open on 24 July and run until 27 July.
