European Para Championships 2027 announces sports for Geneva

The organisation of the European Para Championships 2027 have announced

the 12 sports that will make up the programme in Geneva, Switzerland.

The four-yearly multisport event for elite Para athletes, which has the European Paralympic Committee patronage, will be held from 2 to 15 August 2027 in and around the Palexpo complex in Geneva.

The following sports have been included in the programme for the 2027 edition:

Boccia

Blind football

Goalball

Wheelchair rugby

Para taekwondo

Para archery

Para badminton

Para table tennis

Wheelchair basketball 3x3

Wheelchair tennis

Para judo

Para climbing

This line-up shows how the number of sports is growing compared to the previous

edition. It further boosts the multisport character of the event, with more possibilities

for different disciplines within one championship.

This trend is being continued in Geneva and developed further. For a period of two

weeks, more than 2,000 athletes from throughout Europe will gather in and around

Palexpo to compete at the highest level for European titles and qualification for the Los

Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

“These European Para Championships bring together different sports and federations

at a single event. It makes it possible to showcase their full range of capabilities,”

says Eric Kersten, CEO of the European Para Championships. “In Geneva we are

building further on that concept. More sports means more competition, more

dynamism and a stronger platform for para sport in Europe. Together with the

international sports federations, the European Paralympic Committee, the host city of

Geneva and our partners, we continue to build on an event that puts elite sports at its

heart and contributes to the international visibility and further growth of para sport."

The strength of the European Para Championships lies in bringing together sports,

federations and countries at a single event. It creates a competitive environment with

sporting achievements at its heart, where rivalry and national pride are put in the

spotlight. At the same time the event contributes to a stronger and more visible para

sports structure in Europe, both during the championships and in the run-up to future

editions.

More information on the programme, locations and ticket sales will follow at a later

date.
