About the Event
Karen has recently stepped down as Chairman of British Para Table Tennis after nearly nine years and has been involved in Para table tennis since 2008. Internationally, Tonge continued to be involved with both the European Table Tennis Union and International Table Tennis Union, specifically advising on Para table tennis.
Also helping to take the British team from no medals at Beijing 2008 to seven at Tokyo 2020 – and multiple medals at European and World Championships - Tonge has a wealth of experience to share.
Participants in the session will hear about:
- Introduction to Para table tennis
- Culture change – moving from an amateur to a professional mindset
- Athlete recruitment – different ways to find players
- Integration – how British Para Table Tennis has included Para events within national able-bodied competition structures
This session is open to anyone interested in learning more about Para table tennis and how to build or improve a national programme, but the lessons can be applied to all kinds of sports. Please pass it on to anyone who you think might be interested from within your own communities – everyone is welcome!
