At the 2009 IBSA European Blind Futsal Championships in Nantes, hosts France became only the second team to take the B1 (totally blind) title following six victories in a row for Spain in previous championships. France defeated England 3-2 in the final. Spain had to contend with third place in the event, organised by the French Paralympic Committee and Cecifoot. A record nine teams participated in the event.

In the B2/B3 category (for partially sighted players), reigning champions Belarus retained their European title, defeating the Ukraine 4-0 in the final.
