21-07-2009EPC conference to focus on “The Process of Sports Independence”
This year’s EPC conference, to be held in Vienna, Austria, on September 18th (the day before the committee’s general assembly) will focus its attention on sports independence within the Paralympic movement.

Participants will have the opportunity to assess and evaluate the current situation in Paralympic sports, with a range of differing governance models in place in different sports.

The conference will consist of four round tables which will look in detail at the organisation and governance structures in sports on the Paralympic programme and attempt to assess the viability of each model.

The discussions will address sports which continue to operate as IPC sports, those which have chosen to join the equivalent non-disabled international federation, fully-independent International Paralympic Sports Federations, such as wheelchair basketball, and sports governed by the disability-specific international federations such as the International Blind Sports Federation.

As is customary, the conference will conclude with an open session allowing members to put questions and make comments to the EPC Executive Board on any other issue they may want to raise and which is not on the agenda at the following day’s assembly.
