30-06-2009Final meeting of current Executive Board before general assembly and elections to the Board
Last weekend, EPC’s Vienna HQ hosted the last formal Executive Board meeting during the present term of office. The meeting focussed on preparations for the general assembly in Vienna on September 19th and the conference to be held the day before the GA.

The Board also drew up plans for the work to be performed in the coming months to ensure a smooth handover to the incoming Board.

To date, thirty-one of EPC’s fifty-two members have confirmed their attendance at the assembly where, in addition to the elections, Executive Board members will report on the work carried out and the outlook for the future. Among other issues, motions submitted by the members and the Board will also be on the agenda, and EPC’s involvement in the IPC assembly in November will be discussed.

In addition, organising committees from upcoming Paralympic Games, including Vancouver 2010, London 2012 and Sochi 2014, will present reports on developments and preparations for the events.

One of the most important items on the assembly agenda will be the elections to the new Executive Board. The current EPC President, Enrique Sánchez-Guijo, has announced he will not be standing for re-election in September.

Sánchez-Guijo has served on the EPC Executive Board since 2001 and he was elected President at the general assembly in June 2005. A Paralympian from Spain, he also sat on the IPC Athletes’ Committee. Among the key achievements attained during his mandate are securing financial support for EPC development from the European Commission and setting up EPC’s headquarters and general office in Vienna.
