18-05-2009Norway loses out to last-minute US strike at Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships
Team Norway, the only European nation in the top four at the tournament, took silver at the 2009 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic, following a last-gasp winning strike from favourites the USA in last Saturday's final.

With the final finely-balanced at nil-nil and only eleven seconds remaining on the clock, the match looked set to go into overtime when Andy Yohe scored after a face-off to give the USA gold and the title of World Champions. Norway had no time to react and had to make do with second place and the silver medals.

Norway had defeated Japan and the USA beat Canada to reach the final. The losing semi-finalists met in the bronze medal match, where Canada came out two-nil winners.

Full final standings in the World Championships, in which four European nations played, are as follows:

1 USA

2 Norway

3 Canada

4 Japan

5 Czech Republic

6 Italy

7 Korea

8 Germany
