The European Paralympic Committee has released the final list of candidates standing for election to the Executive Board for the period 2009-2013. The deadline to submit nominations was September 15th, and at close of business nine nominations had been received for the eight positions up for election.
16-09-2009EPC set for 8th General Assembly in Vienna on September 19th
EPC holds its 8th General Assembly next Saturday, September 19th, in Vienna, Austria. Members will elect a new President and a new Executive Board for the next four years and vote on motions submitted. One of the other key issues on the agenda is a proposal to move EPC – currently registered in Germany - to Austria

Lithuania retained its men’s title at the recent 2009 IBSA European Goalball Championships held in Munich, Germany, with a convincing 14-4 victory in the final over challengers Slovenia. In the women’s event, Great Britain surprised many by overcoming Denmark in the final (7-3).

A fascinating final day's play at the Mercedes Open, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, saw the men's main draw and women's singles and doubles finals all go to three sets in Utrecht, the Netherlands on Sunday, with Stefan Olsson (Sweden), Esther Vergeer (Netherlands) and David Wagner (USA) retaining the three main draw singles titles.

The Council of Europe has granted EPC participatory status as an accredited Independent Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO). Official recognition by the Council enables EPC to contribute to the Council’s deliberations and decision-making processes on behalf of European athletes with disabilities, and participate in regular INGO conferences as a key stakeholder in civil society in the fields of sport and disabilities.

January 1st 2009 is an important milestone in strengthening fair competition and the fight against doping. On this date, revisions to the IPC Anti-Doping Code, the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC) and its related International Standards for Testing, Laboratories and Therapeutic Use Exemptions, as well as the 2009 Prohibited List and the new International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information, entered into force.

The London 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and Lend Lease released the latest legacy designs for the Athletes’ Village last week, together with new images showing the steady progress being made on construction work on site.
