| EPC has announced it is to receive major backing from the European Commission for 2008 and 2009. The committee has been awarded an EU grant to cover ordinary running and operating expenses as part of the "Europe for Citizens" programme, aimed at promoting active European citizenship for the period between 2007 and 2013. |

| A recent survey shows 69 per cent of the UK public would like to see more media coverage of Paralympic sport. Ninety-three per cent of those polled believe Paralympic athletes are good role models for young people. The survey, carried out on behalf of the London 2012 Organising Committee, showed that Athletics, Basketball and Swimming topped the list of sports that the public associate spontaneously with the Paralympic Games. There was also high awareness of Archery, Shooting and Table Tennis. |

| The European Paralympic Committee (EPC) Executive Committee met in Athens on the 24th of June. Among items on the agenda, discussions took place on creating new sports events, organising a European conference and further developing relations with the European Disability Forum, which EPC joined recently. The meeting also dealt with preparations for next year’s General Assembly and the selection of a new headquarters for the committee. |
